The History of basketball club Flashing Heiloo

In April 1976 there was an invitation in the local newspaper de Uitkijkpost to start a basketball club in Heiloo. The guy who started this bright idear was Ruud Sibilo. Ruud Sibilo used to play in the nationalteam of Surinam and played with his brothers and cousins in de Surinam competition under the name "The Sibilo Brothers".

The invitation to start a basketball club in Heiloo was well received. Within two months there were especially former basketball players who were anxious to start playing again for Heiloo.

The first meeting was held in Sibilo (the local pharmacist) in the patient room. There was decided to form a club, only the name was a problem. At the end it became "White Spots". The official sign in at the National Basketball Association (N.B.B.) was in July 1976. "White Spots" appeared to be a not so well chosen name because it was to similar to another club which played in Haarlem called "White Stars", this club objected to the name White Spots. After quick evaluation within the new-formed board, they decided to name the club "Flashing Heiloo". All members of the board thought this should become the new name and so Flashing Heiloo was born.

Everything was ready to start in September 1976. That year the club started with 33 seniors and 29 junior members.
